ABOUT
Husband and wife team Marc and Emily are the owners of TexMod Homes. Marc is a Registered Architect with almost 25 years of experience. After graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Master of Architecture from Texas A&M, he has been a practicing Architect, specializing in both residential and commercial architecture.
Emily has an extensive background in design, fashion, and marketing. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas. Throughout the growth of TexMod Homes, Emily has found a passion for Interior Design, and she has become the point person for working with our clients on the interior finishes and materials to help them create a unique look for their new space.
Together, Marc and Emily personally design and manage every aspect of all TexMod Homes projects. Whether remodeling a small kitchen or constructing a new house, Marc and Emily are there every step of the way guiding the homeowner through design and construction.
HOW WE STARTED
TexMod Homes started in 2014 when Marc and Emily Frame decided to design and construct their own home. Marc had gone out on his own as an independent Architect a year prior, focusing mostly on Commercial Architecture, but he always had a passion for Residential Architecture. When the opportunity arose for Marc and Emily to purchase a piece of land on which to eventually build a home for their family, they jumped at the chance.
Marc grew up in Trophy Club during his childhood, and the lot they found was one that he had his eye on since a young boy when he dreamed of becoming an Architect one day. It was an infill lot in Trophy Club that had never been built upon and sloped 25 feet from front to back, was littered with over 30 overgrown trees, vines, terrain trails, and had creatures that had come to inhabit it. Because of the difficulties of imagining what could be designed and actually constructed, many builders had thought about trying to build something on it for decades, but ultimately always passed.
CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
Marc and Emily believed that the uniqueness of the lot was an advantage and an opportunity to design and build something special that was unique to that particular lot and couldn’t be replicated on just any flat piece of dirt. Marc remembered from his early college Architecture classes that a professor once stated that anyone can build anything on an open piece of property, but as an Architect you should try to find those pieces of land that nobody wants and be able to truly design a building that is integrated into the land and environment and becomes a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Once they took the plunge, Marc and Emily’s original goal was to fully design the house but then find a qualified General Contractor to build the house for them – since at that time Marc had practiced Architecture for 15+ years but had never actually built anything himself. After many attempts at interviewing various General Contractors, they did find a few that were qualified and competent, but they could not find one that they felt could carry out their vision of an “Architectural Home” and all the specific details that Marc had designed. So, with a faith in God and the energy that comes with going out on a limb and trying something for the first time, they fully committed to building the house themselves, which meant finding all the subcontractors, acquiring all the materials, and managing the day-to-day supervision of the work – all the time while Marc was still practicing Commercial Architecture on his own.
While those days were some of the most stressful and complicated times of their lives, it was also a very rewarding experience as they pushed through and completed the construction of the home in 2015. Though there were definitely challenges, some work that had to be re-done, and other items that didn’t go exactly as envisioned – Marc and Emily were successful in creating their vision. Over the years, the home has been a talking point amongst people in the community, has been selected for the Fort Worth AIA Tour of Homes (which was unfortunately cancelled due to the lockdowns in 2020), and has served as a model home for future clients.
Furthermore, Marc and Emily enjoyed working together on the project, and surprisingly did not stress their marriage negatively. In a way, it actually brought them more together, and they believed that they could be great business partners, too. Throughout the process, Emily discovered a passion that she never knew she had for interior design and managing subcontractors – which probably started from her past work experience in fashion and her college degree in Psychology, but now could be concentrated in the world of Design and Construction. So at that point, Marc and Emily decided to start TexMod Homes as a company to provide Architectural Design and Construction Services to others in the community.
TEXMOD HOMES IS BORN
TexMod Homes’ name came to be as a result of the creative mind of Emily, who thought of the name to describe Marc’s design philosophy for the home, which he coined “Texas Modern” – utilizing typical Texas materials such as brick, cedar, stone, stucco, and metal to create open, connected spaces with clean lines and minimal ornamentation. TexMod Homes over the past 10 years has been fortunate to have had many great clients and the opportunities to work on many different types of remodel and addition projects. While the dream and goal are to eventually do more new construction homes from the ground-up, Marc and Emily have discovered an enjoyment in doing smaller projects where they get to interact with the clients and subcontractors in a more intimate and meaningful way, creating a unique niche in TexMod Homes’ ability to services Clients’ needs for attention to detail and quality of construction in any size project that may come their way.
